Italcogen is launching a Public Consultation on the role of cogeneration in the energy transition, with the aim of gathering comments, proposals and further insights from industry operators and stakeholders.
The increasing deployment of non-dispatchable renewable energy sources is reshaping the energy system and electricity market dynamics. Against this backdrop, cogeneration is called upon to evolve towards increasingly integrated and flexible models capable of balancing users’ energy needs with those of the electricity system.
The study developed by Italcogen highlights, in particular, the potential of integrated cogeneration systems, in which cogeneration can interact with energy storage technologies and active energy management solutions, thereby contributing to greater system flexibility and dispatchability.
The consultation builds on the work carried out by Italcogen to further explore the contribution that cogeneration can continue to make to the decarbonisation of industrial processes, energy efficiency and business competitiveness. It also aims to gather input from the market to support the development of the Association’s future technical and institutional proposals at both national and European level.
Through this Consultation, Italcogen invites companies, industry operators and experts to actively take part in the discussion, contributing to the development of a shared vision for the future of cogeneration and its role in the energy system.
