VRV è stata fondata nel 1956. La sua sede centrare è sita in Ornago, vicina Milano, ed è organizzata in due divisioni, la divisione Cryogenica / LNG e quella Petrolchimica e dell’energia.

Oggi VRV è uno dei principali produttori mondiali nella progettazione e produzione di attrezzature a pressione all'avanguardia per i settori chimico, petrolchimico, della raffinazione, dell'energia, dei fertilizzanti e criogenico. In particolare, la divisione criogenica è specializzata in prodotti isolati sottovuoto utilizzati nella distribuzione e nello stoccaggio di gas liquefatti criogenici, compreso l'idrogeno, ed esporta la maggior parte dei suoi prodotti alle più grandi società industriali del mondo in più di 80 paesi del mondo. Per garantire che le esigenze locali siano soddisfatte in vari mercati geografici, VRV ha stabilito uffici nei principali mercati geografici di tutto il mondo. Nel novembre 2018 VRV Group è stata acquisita dalla società americana Chart Industries, Inc.
